Today I’d like to tell you about a magical book series sent to Vivre Le Rêve, that we’ve started to delve our way into this week: The Potion Diaries & The Potion Diaries: Royal Tour. Written by Amy Alward, The Potion Diaries is a huge international success and now a Zoella Book Club pick. As you can imagine, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the second novel in the series, and they needn’t wait very much longer as The Potion Diaries: Royal Tour, will be available to buy this month.

Honestly, these are the sort of books I love to unwind with on vacation. I think that this new addition is a great holiday read, it’s a bit of a page turner and I’m a very speedy reader so I finished it pretty quickly. If you’re like me and you love fantasy, romance and strong female leads, then you’ll love this one. I mean what’s not to love about the life of a potion-making teenager, that swaps dresses, princes and palaces for dragons, centaurs and caves in a quest to save her grandad (and everyone else)? With just the right amount of romance and magic thrown in, I think it’s really well written.

It’s also refreshing to read a popular mainstream book series where the title character role is a strong female, fixing her own problems and still managing to help others, this is such an important factor in the reading material we encourage our teens and preteens to choose. And this certainly gets our recommendation for positive representation of women’s empowerment within media and literature.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I’m very much looking forward to the third book in the series. If you’d like to see what all of the fuss is about and win a copy for yourself, just enter using the rafflecopter below, good luck!

  1. ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll. I read it as a child purely because I picked it off the shelf as I shared the author’s name. It’s a magic tale…pure fantasy – unfortunately any relation I have to Lewis is too as I later found out it was only his pen name 😉 x
