Organised Family Life Hacks – Part 1

Organised Family Life Hacks – Part 1

Planning ahead and doing a little bit at a time leaves a lot more time to enjoy yourself and just makes the general day to day running of life so much easier. You also can save money by being prepared through the year. Every Friday we’ll post a list of Organised Family Life Hacks that we’ve compiled over the years. If you have any of your own to add, please comment below. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you suggest!

  • A family diary clearly visible in the kitchen (ours is a book-type on the counter, we find that easier than a wall one). To all be able to see what is happening that week. Regular activities, who is abroad or has early/late meetings for work, irregular appointments, social commitments, babysitters booked, birthdays/anniversaries etc. This will change your life. I started this about 7 years ago and we’d all be lost without our family planner now.

  • Freeze meals like Bolognese in a large zip top bag. If you freeze it flat, several portions can be stored on top of each other. This in turn makes it far quicker to defrost than in Tupperware and if you need it quickly you can partially defrost the bag under a hot tap and then finish it off in a bowl in the microwave.

  • This one is an obvious one. But, always have a store cupboard stocked with useful things to make a meal from – tins of tuna and sweetcorn, jars of pesto and a couple of decent sauces. Pasta and rice. Bacon lardons last ages in the fridge and are quick for a few different dinners. Like scrambled eggs, omelettes. It’s also useful to have some frozen prawns in the freezer with a couple of different varieties of frozen vegetables.
