Here’s What You Need To Know Before Joining The Gym
Think About What You Want From The Gym
Firstly, If you need someone motivating you, sign up for classes or a personal trainer. Otherwise, you may want to try a specialised gym – these will have superior teaching and equipment for that specific activity.
Don’t Be Afraid To Ask
The people who work there are often just dying to show off, so if you don’t know how to use a piece of equipment, they will be happy to help. You wouldn’t believe how many people are using things wrong. It’s much less embarrassing to ask than being told you’re using something backwards!
No One Cares
Other gym-goers are either too tired or self-involved to be looking at you. You may feel like you’re impossible to miss, but really no one cares.
Muscle Men
The weights section will be filled with muscle men; they will make you feel like you’re in the way. They have no right to do this. Weight training is a great workout for women. If you really can’t face it, try to avoid peak times (after work/lunchtime).
Receptionists
The person at the front desk may not be beneficial. Don’t let them make you feel stupid for asking where the changing rooms are. They are bored. You are fine.
Change It Up
Don’t exclusively use the treadmill. It feels like most people’s safe place, but if you’re bothering to spend money on joining the gym, it’s a real waste if you want to get fit.
Bring Your Own Toiletries
How nice the bathrooms are directly correlated to how much you’ve spent. So, if you’re not willing to remortgage your house just for Molton Brown soap in the changing rooms, make sure you remember your own toiletries and towel.
Find A Gym Buddy
Consequently, there are many benefits of having a workout partner. Choose somebody who is more experienced with the gym and able to show you around. In no time, the intimidation of joining the gym will go away.
Great advice, also I would state do not sign up for a year or longer, make sure that you will keep up the good work after a couple of months because it will be money wasted!
Can be quite daunting – a friend for the first few sessions Definately gives the motivation to continue
I used to enjoy an early morning gym session, now I prefer a cup of coffee and then a long dog walk because the gym is too far away from home now. I do miss the classes though. Your advice is good.
