Eva Solo – All-in-One Carafe and Wine Cooler
We’ve had a lot of fun playing around with the all new Cool Wine Decanter by Eva Solo. Many people are unaware that you can easily decant, for example, a white wine, and that white wines often benefit from being left to breathe to soften flavours and release the aromas.
You know how it is, as if the stress of getting Christmas dinner served were not enough, there’s also that last minute panic of wondering whether anything needs to be decanted. Eva Solo’s new decanter carafe gently decants your wine through the integrated funnel, which is perforated with countless small holes. Running through these tiny holes and down the inside of the carafe, the wine is gently and effectively aerated, while the large surface area created by the carafe allows the wine to oxidise further.
How far ahead to decant depends on the wine. it may simply be a question of getting a bit of air into it, in which case simply decanting before you pour will do the trick (much more effective than pulling the cork and leaving the bottle open for an hour or so). The ideal shape, if you’re looking for presents, is one with a wide base like this which gives you plenty of room to swirl the wine – gently – around. And which actually looks quite stylish on the table.
The base features a removable cool element which must be placed in the freezer before use. And which keeps the wine nice and chilled for many hours. We think it’s best to always keep the cool element in the freezer so it is ready for unexpected guests and impromptu catch ups.
