After spending over a year in and out of Zoom calls, a rising number of men are seeking cosmetic procedures to make them appear “Zoom-ready”. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), they reported a staggering 70% rise in the total of requests for video consultations throughout 2020.
A small percentage of men reported that due to the stress triggered by lockdown, they feel as though their looks have aged five years. Since they are spending most days on a work video call, they have noticed small details about themselves from the shoulders up, ones that have previously gone unnoticed—for instance, dark circles under their eyes, even the colour or straightness of their teeth.
With a range of options available to alter their appearance, a rising number of men are considering or have enquired about undergoing certain treatments. These are just a few of the treatments being considered by men to be “Zoom-ready”.
Wanting The Perfect Smile
Before the pandemic, the British Orthodontic Society (BOC) had noted an increase in the number of adults in the UK seeking orthodontic treatment. With a reported 75% of orthodontists reporting an increase in the total of private patients and 60% attributing this growth to the heightened awareness of adult orthodontists.
The reasons why people are motivated to achieve the perfect smile varies. For some, it is due to seeing gleaming, pearly smiles across their social media platforms and television screens. Others are that it is becoming increasingly more socially acceptable to get professional treatment done to your teeth.
Due to the pandemic, for others, the daily video calls for work took their toll on them. They notice that their teeth might not be as perfect as their colleagues and so have considered getting dental work, such as braces to straighten teeth or have them professionally whitened.
Desire To Have A Head Of Hair
The past year has undoubtedly been a stressful time for many. However, one of the effects of long-term stress is hair loss. With the majority of men experiencing hair loss at some point in their line, whether it is a thinning crown or a receding hairline, it can have a significant impact on their overall self-esteem and confidence.
Although restrictions are beginning to ease, work video calls are still occurring, so men are still having those moments noticing things they consider flaws in their appearance. As such, there are a few contemplating undergoing a hair transplant. Follicular Unit Extraction, commonly known as FUE, is one of the most modern hair transplant techniques available today. With more celebrities openly admitting to having FUE treatment, FUE clinics have noted that the taboo around having a hair transplant is fading.
Having an FUE treatment is a minimally invasive hair restoration option that requires skill and precision to achieve the desired results. However, the outcome of the procedure is noticeable not only visually by the patient or others but also the increase in confidence and self-esteem the person has afterwards.
Ways To Look Younger
Over the years, Botox has become an increasingly more common procedure, with both men and women openly admitting to having undergone the treatment. During this past year, it has been a treatment considered by men after noticing wrinkles and fine lines whilst on video calls.
The quick treatment temporarily freezes facial muscles to ensure any movement is minimised. It softens current wrinkles and fine lines and prevents new ones from forming.
