500 Calories or Less: Chocolate Sorbet

This is one of our favourite less than 500 calorie desserts. It’s perfect if you’re looking for 5:2 diet plan ideas or just fancy something lighter for after dinner. The 500 calories fast days are obviously the hardest part of the diet. The point of the 5:2 diet is that you give your body 2 fast days and 5 days where you eat normally, albeit slightly healthier. The diet has become one of the nation’s favourite weight-loss options and the fast days needn’t be as scary as they sound.

Being on a diet doesn’t mean missing out on delicious treats, like chocolate sorbet. We’ve got lots of low calorie versions of classic meals including curry, stir-fries, sandwiches and more. And of course, we’d love to hear how you’re getting on with your 5:2 diet progress so feel free to comment below and let us know all about it.

Serves: 6
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Calories: 170

Ingredients

• 200 g golden granulated sugar
• 50 g cocoa powder
• pinch of sea salt
• 1 tsp instant espresso coffee powder
• 1 cinnamon stick
• 6 tsp Baileys chocolate luxe liqueur, to serve

Method

Put the sugar, cocoa, salt, coffee and cinnamon stick in a pan with 600ml of water. Bring slowly to the boil, stirring, until the sugar has completely dissolved. Boil for 5min, then remove from the heat. Leave to cool. Remove the cinnamon stick, then chill.

Pour into a freezerproof container and put in the freezer until firmly frozen. Remove from the freezer, put the frozen mixture into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

Put the mixture back in the container and return to the freezer. Freeze for at least 1hr. Store in freezer until needed. Scoop out the sorbet and put into individual cups, then pour 1tsp Baileys chocolate luxe liqueur over each one and serve immediately.

Alternatively, place a scoop into an ice cream cone and top with peanuts or crushed honeycomb. Delicious!

  1. Great recipe and thanks for the kCalorie value as well. When visiting friends and family over Christmas there are often awkward moments when it gets to desert as I usually don’t eat them as I am obese, but hosts very often feel they are not being good hosts if food is rejected. This is one recipe to help those socially awkward moments.
