The Truth About Top Beauty Myths
Are there any must-have ingredients I should be using?
The most important weapon against ALL signs of ageing is daily use of SPF. It’s estimated that up to 90% of visible ageing is caused by UVA rays (sunlight) and the environment. UVA is present all year round and isn’t blocked by cloud or glass. Your second big must-have is antioxidants because these neutralise the damaging effects of free radicals, and help protect your own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
If that’s true, why are there so many different products?
The ongoing myth is that too many active ingredients may counteract each other. The truth is that some of the most effective formulas are found in serums. As these penetrate to deeper levels of the skin. However, remember that the rest is mostly marketing. You need a high factor daily SPF and 2 litres of water a day and that’s about it!
Lifting, smoothing, anti-ageing – doesn’t it all mean the same thing?
Most things you read will tell you no. However if you scratch a little deeper, you’ll see that the article was most likely sponsored by one of the big skincare companies. And of course they want you buy a lotion for lifting, a cream for smoothing and a serum for anti-aging. Why sell you one pot? When they can sell you three!
So there’s no magic do-it-all product?
Most experts will recommend a skincare regime that consists of an anti-ageing all-over moisturiser with an added serum for your problem prone areas. However, if you look around and see the epidemic that is people having poison injected into their face in an effort to appear younger. You’ll see that there is certainly no cure all method. If there was, and if these lotions and potions really worked do you not think that people would not resort to having their faces nipped, tucked and injected?
It’s time to learn to love ourselves!
If you look in the mirror and genuinely feel that if only your skin was smoother, firmer, plumper, then you’d be happy. I suggest you cease heading down the beauty myth rabbit hole. And really spend some time learning to love your beautiful self, the way you are. No jar or bottle of cream is going to give you the sense of self confidence that you can achieve yourself.
